Ancient Egyptian Blogs. o.O

Of course they exist! Who are you kidding.

Anyway, I was watching the Mummy Returns last night, and I thought it would be a lot of fun for me (not for anyone who reads this, haha, wait, no one does.) to do a post about movies.

I love watching movies, and I really do have a lot of favorites. Don't let what you see in the "More about Siobhan Kathleen" thing deceive you, I do have favorite movies.

So, each day this week, I picked a different movie to watch. Tonight? Well... I think Ice Age is a pretty safe bet, so I'll talk about that one tomorrow.

Monday: RENT! Gosh... I love RENT. It's one of my favorite movies. Why? Probably because it's one of those Broadway musicals that they made into a movie. Yeah. I loved the way it was portrayed in this version though. It does bug me that some of the songs were cut down, and some of the scenes were changed and such, but to be honest, Chris Columbus (Who, oddly enough directed the first two Harry Potter movies... Go figure.) did a fantastic job of casting. I love the girl who plays Mimi in the movie. She's way better than the girl from the original cast of RENT. Sings way better, talks better, acts better. Love her. My favorite scene would absolutely have to be "Over The Moon" sung my Moreen (Played by Idina Menzel) through La Vie Boheme. Which is a full company song, and one of the best ones in the show, besides the classic RENT, Today 4 U, and Christmas Bells (the one at the end of Act 1, which is my favorite song in the show, but they cut it from the movie...) Anyway, I do love this movie... I watch it constantly. Maybe it'll be my Monday movie from now on. Awesome movie. Five stars. ☆☆☆☆☆

Tuesday: The Mummy! Oh my gosh. I haven't watched this for years! But it's my favorite series. Hands down, I love the way Stephen Somers directs. He's fantastic. Sure, it's older, and therefore the graphics and CGI work on Imhotep while he's being re-generated is iffy, but it was 1999 when this movie was made... Give it a break. I have the collectors edition. Just thought I'd mention that. I think I have the video game somewhere too... But enough about that. The movie stars Brenden Fraser as Rick O'Connell, Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan, John Hannah as Jonathon Carnahan, Arnold Vosloo as The High Priest Imhotep, and (my personal favorite) Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay. He's my favorite character... and Oded was actually seen on a few episodes of Charmed, a 90's TV show. I think it was the sixth season... Don't quote me. I love his acting though. It's all very well done, and the story and flashbacks to Ancient Egyptian Times were very acurate in the fashion and building structure. I've seen the entire movie with Steven Somer's commentary, and all of the behind the scenes stuff, and it's very interesting to see how they made the little individual scenes while they were showing arial shots of Thebes. Very cool. Five stars. ☆☆☆☆☆

Wednesday: The Mummy Returns! Aha! A sequel! Similar plot line... Imhotep comes back to life... Kill him, only this time you have to kill the Scorpion King (A CGI version of The Rock) and wipe out the Army of Anubus in the lost Oasis of Ahm Shere. No biggie. Hah, tell that to Steven Somers. The CGI wasn't much better in this movie, though they did show Imhotep sucking the life out of a few guys, a feat which they avoided in the first movie (They only showed it in a shadow form, or they would have a character looking away, so the camera did too...) But this movie was produced two years later, so the graphics did have a chance to get better. The whole plot twist about Evelyn being the re-incarnated princess Nefertiri, daughter to Ramses I, who is the Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh that the series follows was really cool too, and I enjoyed seeing the traditional "Kill The Pharaoh" scene from a different angle, with clips from the original thrown in.. I do like this movie, and the addition of the girl who played Anck-su-namun in the original as a main character was very interesting, and made the movie quite different from it's prequel, but cooler at the same time. I don't want to talk about The Mummy 3. That doesn't exist to me. No. They're in China, first of all, and it doesn't have Rachel Weisz in it, so I don't approve. And the Mummy 4: The Rise of Aztec? Are you kidding, Steven Somers? No way do I approve. It's not going to have Brenden Fraser in it! Gah! They are a feeble attempt at making a 21st Century Mummy movie. In my book, there are three Mummy movies. 1: The Mummy. 2: The Mummy Returns, and 3: The Scorpion King. (Which technically is a spin-off with Dwane Johnson as The Scorpion King... But, you know what, it had to do with the original movies, so it counts.) I give it five stars still. ☆☆☆☆☆

So, that's really it for today... I talked a lot about those movies. I should go do some homework. I'm going to be watching Ice Age (the original is the best!) tonight, so I'll be talking about that one tomorrow or Saturday, depending on when I get a chance.

Okay, until next time,
Smile, Smile, Crocodile.
